$17.5 million settlement in furniture tip-over / product liability case
Last year, Leesfield & Partners pursued a claim against a furniture manufacturer on behalf of a Central Florida family who lost their 2-year old child in a furniture tip-over incident that occurred at their home. The dresser in question was compliant with all industry standards, and has not been subject to any recall. After a thorough investigation by the firm’s team of experts, which included mechanical engineers, furniture designers, and safety behavior analysts, the manufacturer settled for $17.5 million and agreed to bring about change in its entire dresser catalog, specifically to warn end-users about the propensity and risks of furniture tipping-over and the increased need to anchor and secure furniture to the wall.
